Our Beliefs
Statement of Faith & Doctrinal Positions
The Rock Church’s Statement of Faith outlines the core beliefs that define the essential doctrines of the Christian faith, uniting all believers in fundamental truth. These beliefs are considered non-negotiable and central to the identity of the Church.
The Doctrinal Positions of The Rock Church reflect the distinct beliefs of our church on particular theological matters. We consider these theological views to be interpretive issues and not salvific. While these positions are important to our church’s teaching and practice, they do not affect the essential unity of believers in Christ. Doctrinal positions can differ from church to church, but they help guide how we live out our faith in specific contexts.
Statement of Faith
We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14). These three are coequal, coeternal, and distinct, yet fully and perfectly united as one God. God the Son, Jesus Christ, is fully God and fully man who came to redeem humanity through His life, death, and resurrection. God the Holy Spirit empowers, guides, and dwells within believers, enabling them to live out the mission of Christ. Though distinct in person and role, the three are one in essence, glory, and purpose—worthy of our worship, love, and obedience.
We believe in God the Father, an infinite personal Spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power, and love. We believe that He actively and mercifully intervenes in the affairs of humanity, that He hears and answers prayer, and that He saves from sin and death all that come to Him through Jesus Christ. (Exodus 34:6-7, John 3:16, John 4:23-24, Ephesians 1:3)
Jesus Christ is both the eternal Son of God and virgin-born Son of man. Fully God, fully man, He surrendered nothing of His deity during His earthly life. His sinless, sacrificial offering on the cross satisfied the Father’s justice, offering atonement for all of humanity’s sins for all time. We believe in His bodily resurrection, His physical ascension, and His visible return back to earth to establish His earthly kingdom. (John 1:14-18; Colossians 1:15-20)
The Holy Spirit executes the will of God in this world through humanity by leading, guiding, filling, equipping, teaching, and convicting. The Holy Spirit is not merely an impersonal force, but is a person, displaying the qualities of personhood (intellect, emotions, and will). The Holy Spirit equips believers upon conversion by giving them gifts to be used for the building up of the church and by bearing fruit through their yielded lives. (John 16:7-11; Ephesians 2:10; Ephesians 1:13-14; Galatians 5:22-25)
We are created in the image of God (male and female), destined to enjoy an intimate relationship with Him and one another, fulfilling His will here on earth. Through Adam and Eve’s willful sin in the garden, sin entered the world and has infected all of humanity. Due to our inherent sinful nature received from our father Adam, we are separated from God, spiritually dead, and destined for physical death and an eternity removed from God. (Genesis 1-3; Romans 1:18-32; Romans 5:12-21; Ephesians 2:1-3)
Jesus Christ died for our sins as the only sufficient sacrifice, offering atonement for the sin of all mankind through His death, burial, and resurrection. While salvation is available to all, it is only experienced by those who receive His gracious gift by faith, apart from works.
As a result of our new relationship with God through His Son, Jesus, we are called to a life of submission to the Holy Spirit, manifesting spiritual fruit, and walking in good works that God has prepared beforehand for us to do. (John 14:6; Acts 4:12; John 1:12; Ephesians 1:7, 2:8-9; Hebrews 10:10-14; 1 John 5:11-13; Galatians 3:26; John 3:16)
We believe everyone will spend eternity in one of two places. The saved will spend eternity in heaven, and the unsaved will spend eternity in hell. (John 3:16; John 3:15; John 5:24; Romans 6:23; Revelation 20:15; 1 John 5:11, 12; Matthew 25:31-46)
At the end of all things, God promises to make all things new. He invites us, His followers, to join Him in this work of renewal on earth. The signs of His kingdom coming are salvation, joy, peace, justice, God’s presence, belonging, and healing. (Revelation 21:5).
All who place their faith in God through His Son, Jesus Christ, are a part of the universal body of believers known as the Church. The purpose of the local church is to lead people to Christ and bring them to maturity in Him. Members of the local church are to live lives in humble submission to other Spirit-led believers and to the God-appointed leaders of the church. (Hebrews 10:24-25; Acts 2:41- 47; 1 Corinthians 12-14; Matthew 28:18-20; Ephesians 2:19-22; 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17)
We believe the ordinances of the local church are believers’ baptism and the Lord’s Supper. Believers’ baptism, by full immersion, is a testimony of the death to sin and resurrection to a new life in Christ; and the Lord’s Supper is an act of remembrance, setting forth in sacred and symbolic manner the death of Jesus and our salvation through faith in Him. All believers and only believers should participate in these ordinances.
We believe that the Lord’s Supper and full immersion water baptism are divinely ordained to be observed by the church during this present age. Though they are not to be regarded as means of salvation, they are regarded as means of grace. (Luke 22:19, 1 Corinthians 11:25-26, Matthew 28:19, Romans 6:3-4) your text
We believe that marriage is a sacred, lifelong covenant between one man and one woman, created by God to reflect His love for the Church (Genesis 2:24, Ephesians 5:22–33). It is more than a contract—it is a spiritual union marked by mutual love, respect, and faithfulness. Marriage serves as a picture of Christ’s relationship with the Church, calling both spouses to serve one another in humility and build a foundation of faith, prayer, and love. Our church is committed to supporting couples through every season, offering resources, prayer, and care to help them grow together. While divorce is not part of God’s original design, Scripture does acknowledge it in certain cases. Even so, our desire is always for healing, restoration, and the strengthening of marriages through grace and the power of God.
We believe that every person is created in the image of God with inherent dignity, value, and purpose. We are committed to loving all people as Christ does, including those who identify as LGBTQ+.
We affirm that God’s design for human sexuality is expressed within the covenant of marriage between one man and one woman (Genesis 2:24; Matthew 19:4–6). Sexual activity outside of this context—including same-sex relationships—is outside of God’s intended design.
We believe that God created humanity as male and female, and that our biological sex is a part of His purposeful design (Genesis 1:27; Psalm 139:13–14).
The Bible is God’s word to all mankind. It was written by human authors who were inspired by God. It is the supreme source of truth without any mixture of error. (2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20, 21; 2 Timothy 1:13)
Doctrinal Positions
We believe baptism is an essential step of obedience and a public declaration of faith in Jesus Christ. It symbolizes our union with His death, burial, and resurrection, and represents the cleansing of sin and new life in Him.
Baptism does not save, but is an outward sign of the inward transformation that comes through faith in Jesus. It marks a believer’s personal commitment to follow Christ and begin a lifelong journey of discipleship.
We practice believer’s baptism by immersion, following the example of Jesus and the early Church. This act also welcomes the believer into the church community, where they are supported and encouraged in their walk with Christ.
We believe that the Holy Spirit empowers every believer with spiritual gifts for the building up of the Church and the advancement of God’s mission. These gifts are diverse and include teaching, leadership, service, encouragement, healing, prophecy, tongues, and more (Romans 12:6–8; 1 Corinthians 12:4–11).
We believe that all the gifts of the Spirit are active and available today, and are to be used in love, humility, and order, under the guidance of Scripture. Every believer is encouraged to discover, develop, and use their gifts to serve others and glorify God.
We believe that men and women are equally created in God’s image (Genesis 1:27), redeemed in Christ (Galatians 3:28), and empowered by the Holy Spirit to lead and serve in the Church according to their gifts and calling (Acts 2:17–18).
Scripture affirms the active role of women in ministry—from prophets and leaders in the Old Testament to apostles, teachers, and church leaders in the New. Leadership in the Church is based on spiritual gifting and character, not gender.
We affirm the full inclusion of women in all areas of ministry, including preaching, teaching, pastoring, and leadership. We are committed to equipping and releasing both women and men to serve together for the advancement of God’s Kingdom.
We believe our primary mission is to preach the gospel and make disciples. While we do not endorse political parties or candidates, we encourage believers to be salt and light in the world (Matthew 5:13–16)—engaging politics with wisdom, integrity, and love. We seek to maintain unity in Christ above political differences and foster respectful dialogue rooted in Scripture. Our ultimate hope is in God’s Kingdom, not in earthly systems or leaders.
We believe all human life is sacred, created in the image of God, and worthy of dignity and protection from conception to natural death (Genesis 1:27; Psalm 139:13–16). This includes the unborn, the elderly, the disabled, and the vulnerable.
We oppose abortion and euthanasia, and we affirm the call to protect and care for life in all forms. As a church, we seek to support those in difficult situations with compassion, truth, and grace, while offering hope and healing through Jesus Christ.
